Of course, the hole in my own theory (below) is that the datasource test appears to work from the administrator page. So what's the difference between an OpenBD DSN confirm test (whatever that is) and your actual code? Permissions on specific commands? Are you using the same DB user on all the platforms?

Sorry, at this point I'm just asking myself a bunch of random questions...

Jason is correct that - even without any firewall - some database servers have to know which specific IPs are allowed.
