I find that most client concerns about CFML are "legacy". When they
learn that it's a J2EE deployment now, and brings a pre-programed
library of methods and objects to their java environment (eg not a
WinTel standalone executable), they usually get interested.
For a vocational field which relies on constant change and
innovation, it's always amazing to me how many people in I.T. get
caught up in age-old opinion and crowd hysteria. I.T. is very
mutable, many humans are not.
Done. My only real concern about CFML in general, is the ongoing
support for OpenBD in particular.

Done,
I usually don’t get asked about PHP. I get asked about RAILS
more but when I demonstrate the speed of OpenBD/CFML especially
on web services API’s the preference for the most part goes
away.

Done - good questions I thought, and all
relevant options.
My biggest concern is that CF is dying / legacy.
When I tell collaborators / prospective clients what
language I code in, they nod tentatively, and wish I
said PHP. I can explain all I like, but I fear that the
critical mass is not there. The survey doesn't have
many responses yet, but the numbers show a graying
programmer base. I hide all template file extensions
(for many reasons) behind 404 redirects, mainly so the
question of underlying architecture isn't prominent.

CFUnited is doing a survey which they call "The state of CF

Might not be bad if some of us OpenBD's friends
would take this survey also. It's for the best of
us all in the CFML world.
The result of this Survey will be presented on
the 14th of February
