The only reason I suggest using mod_ssl over apache-ssl is because I found
it more stable when I tested the two over two (or three ???) years ago
and since then I started using mod_ssl.
We currently test OpenCA with mod_ssl but there is no other reason for
choosing one or the other. You could, if you want to, report any errors
related to the apache-ssl choice and we could take time to support it
either...

P.S.: Currently we do only used exported variables to get the SSL used
client certificate so it is not difficult to extend the support to the two
modules... if it does not already works...
