The explanation is really easy. If you issue a certificate for a normal 
user then OpenCA can normally extracts an emailaddress from the subject 
of the request. This emailaddress is used to build a correct subject 
alternative name (AUTOMATIC_SUBJECT_ALT_NAME "Y").

If you create a request for a server then you put perhaps no 
emailaddress into the subject of the request. In addition you should set 
the subject alternative name for a webserver by hand because it is 
recommended by RFCs that the DNS-name is set in the subject alternative 
name. This topic is discussed in the OpenCA-guid too. So please use edit 
request :)
