My mistake. I fixed the timestamps. If I run autoconf in the background
after editing configure.in then the timestamps of configure and
configure.in are equal but for gmake configure.in must be older than
configure.

$make worked fine!!! :))
yet make test:
cd etc && make test
cd lib && make test
make cmds functions locale SUBTARGET=test
cd cmds && make test
make: don't know how to make test. Stop
*** Error code 2
make test is not supported until now. I get the same error.
