I can vouch for the RH 7.3 installation, and also Mandrake 8.2. For RH, you will want to get the SRPM from rawhide that just came out yesterday or the day before for openssl-0.9.7 and rebuild it. The rawhide i386 RPM of openssl-0.9.7 is incompatible with RH 7.3 as it wants to use glibc 2.3. I successfully built and installed openssl-0.9.7 from the src RPM in rawhide. Then you just pass --with-openssl-prefix=/usr instead of /usr/local/openssl as it would be if installing openssl from source tarball. - -- Jason A.
