I. DEFINITIONS:
1. LICENSE shall mean an open source (e.g., free software) license
which allows:
a) Any person or entity to combine the licensed product with
anything else and release the resulting derived product so
long as they:
i) Release it under a different name;
ii) preferably (but optionally) Give credit; and
iii) Do not remove or alter any copyright notices
or credits from comments in the source code
unless the person doing said altercations is the
person or entity that added them or is otherwise
entitled by law to act on his behalf.
b) Any person may fork. Conditions for forking shall be the
same as 1. Forking may include any utilization of any
amount of the source code.
LICENSE shall be perpetual, non-exclusive, and irrevocable.
2. OPENCARD shall mean a certain product being created by OODL to be a new
open-source, rapid application development (RAD) tool with an
easy-to-use, Macintosh- and xCard-style interface and an English-like
xTalk scripting language.
3. MAINTAINER shall mean the person in charge of OpenCard. His word shall
be the Last Word (except for forking). He shall be chosen
a specified below. [Note this is intended for when we have
official versions]
II. Proposal
1. I propose that there shall be a single MAINTAINER, to be shall be
elected by the majority of the members of the OODL list and liable to
removal by the same fraction. I propose that any single decision or group
of decisions may be reversed by a majority vote, except for the provisions
of this document, once adopted, may be modified or extended to the extent
allowed by applicable law by a vote of two-thirds in the affirmative.
2. I propose that OPENCARD shall be distributed under LICENSE.
3. I propose that any person writing code for inclusion in OPENCARD must
allow its inclusion in OPENCARD under LICENSE.
4. I propose that MAINTAINER shall gather code under LICENSE and combine
them to form OPENCARD, a derived work to which he shall own the copyright.
I further propose that MAINTAINER or his designee shall write or arrange to
have written any necessary code to glue together different parts, and to
have that code released under LICENSE.
5. I propose that the final, official name of OPENCARD shall be designated
with the trademark symbol, �, and be a trademark to be owned by MAINTAINER.
III. Legal Safeguards
1. I propose that there shall be two people elected by OODL to enter into a
contract with MAINTAINER that states that in the event of his removal from
office and the election of a successor he shall transfer legal possession of
the OPENCARD trademark and the OPENCARD copyright to the new MAINTAINER.
2. LICENSE shall include a standard-issue blanket disclaimer.
