It's high performance and very reliable, but a real pain in the butt
to configure and maintain. As for upgrading to LinuxPPC instead of
Mac OS X, that'd be a lot of work too, especially for someone who
doesn't know UNIX. Not that learning UNIX is such a bad idea, but it
does take quite awhile.

Speaking of shameless plugs: You can build HTTP servers using only
built-in features in MetaCard 2.3 (other types of servers too, of
course). A sample HTTP server is even included in the current
alpha-test release. The MacOS engine has some performance problems in
this area (OTAccept() in Open Transport is very slow for some reason
we haven't diagnosed yet), but it works reliably. Performance on
Windows and UNIX is quite good. And because it's all one unified
environment, it beats the heck out of trying to develop CGIs in
HyperCard. The mchttpd server is being distributed Public Domain, and
anyone that's interested in this sort of thing is encouraged to try it
out and contribute something if they're so inclined.
