I can confirm that my little trick worked.

Puppy boot option "pmedia=" is sometimes used to tell Puppy where to look to
find itself. I had previously set pmedia=ataflash (to indicate an IDE or SATA
flash-based install medium). Changing it to pmedia=atahd makes Puppy thinks
it's installed to a platter drive, which makes it write things differently
(more often). It's okay to run that way for a little while but I don't make a
habit of it.

One Xorg.0.log comin' up!
