I've no smart idea about the root cause of your problem, but I notice the
memory copy benchmark numbers from your xorg log are very low and should
be up to 10 times better. An NC20 nearby me running Fedora 11 x86_64 at 24
bits has smooth 2D performances. I'll tend to blame your distro for not
setting up something properly, but I can't point the finger at any
specific component now.
