The RELEASE-NOTES, and the README file only say "Red Hat Linux 7.0
(Guinness)," nothing about Release 1 or 2. Regarding patches, I could
only get the tutorial in OpenDX 4.1.1.1-1 to work after applying these:

        /home/smitty/rpms/glibc-2.1.94-3.i386.rpm
        /home/smitty/rpms/glibc-devel-2.1.94-3.i386.rpm
        /home/smitty/rpms/glibc-profile-2.1.94-3.i386.rpm
        /home/smitty/rpms/nscd-2.1.94-3.i386.rpm

For VTK, the Mesa libraries that came pre-installed didn't work.
I had to download and compile Mesa-3.3 from source before vtk 3.1.2
would compile (there's some other stuff you have to do as well).

When I recommended RH 7.1, I should've just said, I never would've
gone to RH 7.0 had I known of the problems I would have. For example,
the gcc compiler pre-installed is gcc.2.96, which is not even supported
by gnu. Here's an excerpt from a posting from GNU:

We would like to point out that GCC 2.96 is not a formal GCC
release nor will there ever be such a release. Rather, GCC
2.96 has been the code- name for our development branch that
will eventually become GCC 3.0. Current snapshots of GCC,
and any version labeled 2.96, produce object files that are
not compatible with those produced by either GCC 2.95.2 or
the forthcoming GCC 3.0. Therefore, programs built with these
snapshots will not be compatible with any official GCC release.

It's my opinion, regardless of what the next release of RedHat is,
I'd wait for it.
