Just to let you know, I'm seeing some of the problems you are but not
all. For example, Rotate works fine for me. I will try and look into
this more in the next week to see if I can help out.

After adding a few missing .class files to dx.jar and pointing DX to
the netscape and cosmo jar files, JavaDX (w/ Netscape 4.79 for IRIX) worked
yesterday to varying degrees depending on the sample program.
First, if you fire up startserver and haven't created
$DXROOT/java/server/class/dxserver.hosts, you get:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at server.DXServer.ReadHostFile(DXServer.java:411, Compiled Code)
at server.DXServer.main(DXServer.java:97, Compiled Code)
at DXServer.main(DXServer.java:5, Compiled Code)
Starting DXServer... ready for clients
Don't know if this just a warning or a potential bug. Creating the file to
contain localhost quiets the warning.
Also, mouse image controls (Rotate, Zoom, Pan) haven't worked on any
of the samples. And about half the time, when the JavaDX app loads in a
web page, all of the interactors are disabled; you have to backup, flush
the browser cache and reload the page at least once to get it to connect to
the server and enable the interactor widgets.
A few more specifics:
The VolumeRendering sample (and many others) work pretty well, except for
the missing mouse image controls and random problems with interactors being
disabled.
ScatterData has significant problems. Here's a picture of what I see:
http://home.nc.rr.com/rhh/TMP/ScatterData.JavaDX.gif
Issues:
1) Changing the interactors rarely updates the image. I've only seen
the image update a few times by changing glyph size, but as soon as
I reactivate Control Panel 3, it ignores any further interactor
changes. Changing any of the other widgets has never updated the
image.
2) Clicking the widgets flashes the Execution button like it's trying
to update, but most of the time it doesn't.
3) Most of the control panel interactors are chopped off or layed
out strangely
4) And of course the same problems with mouse interactors and
widgets being greyed out.
