Pretty busy right now so I just scanned this.

First, use "data file filename" format (not "data follows") so you can push all the data over into one or more external files. Keeps the .dx file nice, compact, and readable. Then you could have either binary or text data files, as you prefer. Since you're probably working with large data, this should be a big win.

Second, I'd be more prone to using constantarray components to hold what you have put in attributes, since it's easy then to Mark that component and do compute things with it. Somewhat more hassle to get the attribute and operate with it. Constantarrays don't take up any more space than attributes.

Definitely, though native format is the only way to go! Glad to see you are over the hump.
