David and I recently added a feature to Regrid to handle this type of problem. In Regrid change the Radius input to 0 and then the data value of each scattered point will be assigned to the nearest grid point. In your case, it should just put the scattered data back on your original grid. It runs much quicker (should be on the order of 5000 times faster).
