Hi,

I've been using OpenDX on a RedHat machine with great success (thanks
much to the advice I've been plucking from the archives of this
list), and now some of my Windows colleagues would like to try
it, so I've gone ahead and installed Cygwin 1.3.2, XFree86 4.1.0,
and OpenDX 4.1.3 on a Win2k machine (SP1).

After successfully figuring out the tcsh.exe vs. csh.exe issue
and (I think) getting the paths correct, I've run into a wall
with trying to edit or run programs. If I run 'dx -edit' at
the bash prompt I get the following error:

Starting DX user interface
Internal error detected at "MacroDefinition.C":631.
No files needed to be saved.
0 [sig] dxui 1532 open_stackdumpfile: Dumping stack trace to
dxui.exe.stackdump

If I run 'dx' at the bash prompt I get the welcome splash screen
and the menu, but choosing "Edit Visual Programs..." gives the
same sort of error in the bash window while popping an error window
saying "Unable to connect to dxexec".

Searching the archives, I've found four other posts mentioning
this error, but, alas, I could find none with a resolution. Does
anybody have the Cygwin version of OpenDX 4.1.3 working with
XFree86? If so, any hints on how to solve this apparently common
problem? If it is a real problem, I'm more than willing to spend
some time on this if I could get some hints on where to begin
(particularly advice on how to compile a win32 executable with
debugging symbols using the cygnus tools/openmotif).

Thanks much,

Kevin Moore
