I'm already "peppering" the files with write-statements (I'm an old f77
hacker:).

If they were to blame? Why do they work the first time correctly? My
question is therefore were do they dump the results in (after parsing)?

BTW I'm using Compaq/DEC Tru64 flex version 2.3 and GNU Bison version
1.25.
