Thanks for the three replies. I feel like I need to explain my configuration a little more in detail - I won't describe the steps taken to get there but suffice it to say that I found it to work and that was enough for me at the time. Also, I must say that I am not a complete novice but also not very comfortable with the Cygwin/Xfree file structure and environment.
I run Cygwin 1.3.1 and Xfree86. I have OpenDx - Cygwin install version 4.0.10 - in my Cygwin file structure but when I installed the OpenDx Windows version 4.1.3, I installed it at C:/OpenDx. The last time I upgraded Cygwin- I think it was 8/27/2002, OpenDx version 4.0.10 quit working and by playing around I found that I could start Cygwin, start Xfree86, and then go to my Windows start menu and run the Windows OpenDx. This was working well before I cleaned off the viruses and updated to SP3 on my Windows 2000 this week. I also feel that I need to repeat that it is only the actual visualization that is not appearing. Everything else seems to start up - I did notice that the Data Explorer choices under the Execute menu are not active. Now to your responses. Martin, I started Cygwin and did as you suggested but there were no error messages in the output. Everything - and there was a full page of output - seemed to work properly. I pinged the localhost successfully two times. Because my Windows OpenDx is at C:/ I can't start Cygwin and Xfree and then cd to the Windows version of OpenDx - if that is possible I don't know how to do it. If I start OpenDx from the Windows Start menu it will open up in the Xfree screen and within OpenDx I can get to either the C or Cygwin directories. I say this to point out that when I performed your suggested steps, I am assuming that I was actually operating on the OpenDx 4.0.1 located in the Cygwin file structure and not the Windows OpenDx 4.1.3. Greg, I have used OpenDX since my last Cygwin update on 8/27/2002. I also updated Xfree at that time. I tried entering "-memory 20", without the quotes, in Cygwin and in the Xfree86 bash shell but neither of them seemed to recognize it. Am I entering it incorrectly or does this need to be entered in OpenDx somehow? Lloyd, I am running a 1gig Athlon with 500 meg RAM. For all, Is this possibly a Cygwin or Xfree problem? Would uninstalling the two OpenDxs I have and installing Windows OpenDx 4.2 possibly cure the problem? If/when I update to OpenDx 4.2 - Windows version - should I install it in the cygwin file structure or directly under the C drive as I have it now? I think I know the answer but I'd like someone to confirm my thought. If there is an easy fix for the existing system I'd rather not have to upgrade at this time - but I will. Thanks, Frankie
