I'm affraid Jason is right. A while ago, when Rafiu was helping me debug an issue, we spoke about the upcoming 2.3 release. Rafiu said that the upgrade from 2.2 -> 2.3 would be difficult, but doable, and that docs were in the making. I don't mind paying for support, if I would need it, but I also think that it should be made possible for regular users to upgrade their box themselves. A decent release document on how to proceed, and its pitfalls, should be included with the release. I cant imagine that we are going to be left in the dark with the upcoming upgrade and that the only way of having the system upgraded cleanly would mean shelling out a few hundred. Good for business, but how is OF going to handle all the support requests within an acceptable time? A lot of people are waiting for 2.3 quite some time now. If it means that it would need a more than average level of expertise, or that people are risking stability problems or even loss of data, then I'm affraid a number of them will leave OF for what it is and will go for another solution (commercial or opensource)

Rafiu,

That is not what was said before. There are posts from you on the forums stating that everyone would be able to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3 with a simple “conary updateall”. No mention was made of needing to pay for commercial assistance; if a single command really will complete the upgrade then there should be no need for commercial assistance.

I thought that the whole point of using rPath over CentOS was that it made it easier to move from one version to the next without having to reinstall. If not, this is the second time in as many years (possibly third, depending on whether or not you installed 2.1b1) that those of us loyal to the project will have to abandon their systems after having installed stable versions of the software.

It kind of amazes me that the 2.3 beta upgrade discussion continues. I
am stuck with a partially functional 2.2 system (either I get iSCSI or
the IGB driver in kernel, I can't seem to get both, the current unpinned
kernel is stuffed from an IET perspective). I know beta users have both,
but they get to live with the prospect of upgrading after the final
release.
I have posted in every forum thread relevent, here in the mailing list
and on some third party forums with OpenFiler threads. Everyone who
replies has similar concerns but there is nothing but silence from those
in the know. A simple 'no you can't upgrade' is better than the current
silent treatment.

We'll provide instructions on upgrading from different 2.3x releases and commercial assistance for folks wanting to move from 2.2 to 2.3.

I received an error regarding the kernel update.

Could you post the error log pls.

    This is the error:

    =============================================

The following dependencies would no longer be met after this update:

      glibc:devel=2.3.6-8.9-1 (Already Installed) requires:

        trove: linux-kernel-headers:devel

      which was provided by:

        linux-kernel-headers:devel=2.4-9-0.1 (Erased)
