Dear All, With some trepidation, I hereby invite individuals on this list to view the rough draft of an essay I am preparing on the topic of Open Source IT management. The intended audience is managers under whom is some aspect of IT but who may not have an understanding of where open source came from or how and why it works.
The reasons to expose a rough draft to this list are: A) I am continually impressed by the knowledge, experience, and good judgment of the list participants, and the consistently high tone of discussions. B) I am just an observer of these phenomena, not an active participant (for reasons too complicated to explain here), and I am confident that I have missed some things. I ain't perfect! It would be a favor to me, if your interest is piqued by any part of the essay, to clue me in to any stupidities, ignorances, inadequate explanations, or misperceptions of reality that the essay may contain. Links to reference material or explanations would be very helpful; and if you have something to say, please note whether or not I can quote you with attribution in the Revised Version. I suppose that if there's anything in it that seems important to retain, favorable comments encouraging me not to lose them in the final edits might be useful... (This is not a hint that I want praise!) OK, deep breath... http://www.danlj.org/~danlj/OpenSource/GWU2003/Manage.html Please reply to a private email address: drdan at wwt.net
