We could change the definition to something similar in the kernel:

struct sockaddr src_addr;
u8              src_pad[sizeof(struct sockaddr_storage) -
                        sizeof(struct sockaddr)];

I'm guessing this sort of change wouldn't require any changes to any of the 
clients.
