I agree. I'm sympathetic to Pamela's point (I don't want an unusable
solution to be adopted because of our efforts!) but I think we will
need a usable solution to even get our foot in the door, so ideally
usability will be a necessary precondition of the adoption committee's
success.

Good input Pamela. Historically we’ve had a hard time getting cri
tical mass on Committees and determined that we’d try to limit the
initial number of them. That said, any committee can form subcom
mittees to support their objectives. For example, the Adoption Co
mmittee is already forming a Online Retailer subcommittee chaired
by Rob Harles of Sears since adoption by retailers may have specif
ic needs beyond general RP adoption. If the Adoption committee de
termines that a UX subcommittee is worthwhile and can be adequatel
y staffed, that’s great. But we want to be clear that the overall
goal is Adoption, not UX, not marketing. UX and Marketing exist
to drive Adoption, which is a top priority for 2010. My hope is t
he Adoption Committee, with strong leadership and input from exist
ing and prospective RPs, will help us determine the areas that the
OIDF needs to focus on most to drive adoption, then we’ll allocat
e members/volunteers/subcommittees and OIDF resources to support t
hose stated needs.

In looking at the wiki, I assume that the originally proposed
Usability Committee has been rolled into the Adoption Committee?
Personally I think that the work products of usability and adoption
are not that closely aligned.
My apologies if this discussion has already resolved itself before
I was added to these lists, I just wonder that usability isn't a
first-order subject to tackle.
Thanks,
Pamela
ps - speaking of usability, the pbwiki currently displays no hint
that it supports OpenID on either the main page header or the
registration page - a user must magically know to skip the "create
an account" link and go directly to the login page where the openid
link finally appears....

Hi John,
Good question, I’d ask that anyone who is a member of any of the c
ommittees who would like to serve as a Chair or Vice Chair, would
start the process of organizing their committee by emailing all th
e committee members and facilitate the process of having that comm
ittee elect its chair and vice chair. I have started that process
with the members of the Adoption Committee and have talked with D
aniel, Rob, and Marc who have agreed to serve in the listed positi
ons if the rest of the members approve. If there are other member
s of the committee who would like to serve as chair or vice chair,
we’ll have a similar discussion to what we did for the Executive
Committee, and if necessary have a vote.
So anyone who is interested in being a chair or vice chair of any
committee, now is your chance to share that desire with the rest of
the members of the committee and get your committee organized.
Once you’ve selected a chair and vice chair, I’d ask each
committee to update their portion of the Committee home page and t
o create or modify existing pages for that specific committee. Fo
r example, the old Marketing Committee page has been converted and
updated to the new Adoption Committee page: https://openid.pbworks.com/Adoption-Committee
By the way John, I added you to as a potential chair/vice chair to
the Security and Government Committees, hope that’s OK. Realistic
ally since Mike Ozburn lives in DC and is focused on the governmen
t, it seems like he might be the most reasonable candidate for the
Chair. But that’s up to the Security Committee to figure out.
As Don said, we want to distribute more of the leadership of the
OIDF to the committees, now is the time so show that we can make
that happen.
Thanks in advance to everyone who steps up.
Cheers,
Brian
