I agree with doing whatever you guys think it is good, if that means the whole process of compilation and assembly is VERY WELL documented, easy to follow, will save time and make developers happy. I like the idea about the documentation, if the doc contains EVERYTHING defined on compile.pl, clean.pl and assemble.pl, not just the few things the people remember about them ;) Also, the docs should exist on a file in the repo. Otherwise, in order to use it, you have to go to Internet for the instructions, and in the end, you have to build your own scripts unless you want to type everything from scratch every time you want to compile OpenNMS, which is why the scripts are there. Also, a doc like that is useful if and only if, anyone can follow it on any operating system that might not have all the required things pre-installed (which is the whole point I guess). Finally, I'm wondering how Bamboo will be affected if we remove these kind of things.
