Is it OK to send RTF email with bold, italic or fixed-space fonts etc?

Background:

Although I only ever send plain text, lots of people send me
"formatted" mail these days. Ie. RTF.
(or HTML or whatever). So I get tiny unreadable fonts, grey text on a
slightly paler grey background. Etc.

If I'm really unlucky, people will fire up MS Word to write an email
like this:

####################################
Hi, coming out for a drink tonight?

Bill
####################################

(not that I ever get invited out for drinks).

This is a bit like people sending me two jpegs as a PowerPoint
presentation.

Now, while I *can* actually read Word, Excel and PPt files - I don't
like doing it.

It's like coding

LDR R0, [PC, #9C]
MOV R1, #0
CMP R0, R1
BEQ ...

I mean, *ugly*! :-)
