What I am talking about is the call model, not the wiring.

It seems to me that you were not paying attention to what I said.

A unified call model is about making all technologies LOOK EXACTLY  
THE SAME from the viewpoint of the telephony engine/application  
layer. And Q.931 is a well defined and established standard of a call  
model that can be and should be used for any kind of telephony, both  
TDM and VoIP.

Certainly, SIP can't and won't replace Q.931. Not a chance.
