yes. except for old devices (not ccid or iccd), and except for old software 
(not everything can match the smart card class, lots of code works with 
product/vendor id only).

if pcscd can use a info file where I can say "give me all devices with class 
smart card as interface class" that would be nice. not sure if it is 
available.

guess it is in some usb descriptor, that would be even easier. 

if we started from scratch today, we would do many things different.
but as things are I hope that small changes on existing code can be an
improvement too, even if a rewrite or redesign might be nice, but not
possible due to lack of developer with time.
