You're free to lobby libusb folks to deal with the problem more
actively. Or lobby your favourite Linux distro to fix it for you. I
guess Ludovic already made a bunch of work for it, namely he's the
actual user of libusb, he created a patch and it has been there ever
since. And he took the other logical step you can do with open source:
publish a fork [1]. Even though I understand that it indirectly
affects OpenSC usage, resources (time) are constrained. You need to
scratch your own itch.

Which ones? Please pinpoint the actual mail or missing commits in the log.
