yes, that was me writing the emails (not working on it).
I believe the work was halted, the last time I used it
it was unfortunately unusable (buggy and incomplete). Looked
like a student project to me...

We have wrote our own "manipulator", that is, you click a geometry
in the scene and you can rotate/translate/scale it with the mouse
(for the rotation using a trackball of course). I'll chek if I can
make it somehow available (perhaps through an example?).
