I think that is overly optimistic.  I think/hope that the team could do
an alpha release in that time frame if everyone pitched in, but IMHO

We are using cluster support right now.  I don't know about VBO support.

It should already work on the cluster, if it doesn't, I suggest posting
a description of the problems to the list and hopefully someone will be
able to help you.

Porting is not bad.  If you don't need the advanced features of 2.0, you
could definitely start with 1.8 and port over later.
