Two observations about the "readline" discussion:

    1) As many have observed, this is a legal issue, but
it is important that the ARC members (and all
the lurkers too!) flag any legal concerns. We
should not provide our interpretations of the
law, but it is very important that we flag those
          concerns to the lawyers.

    2) We have a case pending (for over a year now)
          for GNU readline:

2007/188 GNU readline Dermot McCluskey open
waiting need spec 04/11/2007 John Fischer

Its an interesting case. There is a lot of discussion
about using the bsd version as a base, but it seems
there are some minor compatibility issues.

Perhaps the last entry in the mail log sums it up:

> They require further clarification and expansion, but the expectation
> is that the guidelines will be approved once this is complete. The
> earliest this can happen in May 4, but will probably be later.
>
> So, does the readline case have to be parked, pending full approval

Just for the interested, that's a reference to May 2007. :-)
