May be this or a deactivated option in the BIOS whatsoever (not sure, whether an S5000PAL with E5440 CPUs - see http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/s5000pal/sb/CS-022639.htm - is such an old machine ...) > Shortly, TSC is variant on those old platforms, that is, TSC ticks > according to the current processor clock. Ahh ok - thanx for the update. However, you probably do not want, that people ask the same question again and again because just joined [the list, etc.]. So I can understand Caspar's and James' +1. So, if there would be a man page, which explains, how to check, whether speedstep and friends are enabled and perhaps some background information like yours would be fine IMHO. However, something like: Oct 5 18:11:30 sol cpudrv: [ID 569748 kern.info] NOTICE: cpu_acpi: no ACPI _TSS. See http://sun.com/msg/KRNL-8000-XY would be nice, too. As said, it might be such a simple thing like 'speedstep disabled' option/default in the BIOS - sometimes one just needs a hint ...
