GRIP is an audio ripper that uses CDParanoia as a backend (by default). It works pretty well for damaged audio discs as it can try to extract the damaged data or "figure it out" and smooth over the pops and clicks. Sadly, I've never tried to use Joerg's utilities for this purpose so I can't honestly compare them.
