You did write the following:

Which is conceptually exactly the same thing; and whether it resides in 
/dev/sys/ or in /dev/ is a matter of detail. The concept, however, is a 1:1 of 
how IRIX 6.5 functions in that regard.

And for the record, I don't think "copying" will be an issue here, however, it 
is useful to point out someone already did exactly the same thing, thereby 
saving you from reinventing it again.

Obviously you won't find zones in IRIX, but they have engineered so elegantly 
that their stuff would also lend itself well for zones with minimal 
modifications.

Please at least consider looking at what they did, even if it just stays on 
that.
