I don't know how I can make it more clear; when I inserted a Solaris CD/DVD in a hard disk in which I had specifically prepared a primary partition awaiting its installation, I was not presented with a clear view of that partition. Instead, I was asked to enter the beginning and end cylinder numbers (or something to that effect). This is definitely not a problem for most of you in this forum who can probably install Solaris (or its derivatives) during sleep. But for me, having been burned once, I am not going to take a chance on messing up a hard disk which I have installed 12 different operating systems. Of course you can say that Linux behaved the same way. But you have to go back at least 10 years, when Red Hat was at version 4.2. OTOH, you can call me lazy or unwilling to be educated, but everything is relative. If Solaris developers are not interested in making it easily installable for spoiled brats like me (& a whole bunch of other Windowz/Linux users who are interested in trying this esteemed OS), there is nothing we can do 'bout it.
