By default, Solaris uses Solaris Printing and CUPS is also works but
one has to install CUPS from the
companion CD.
Add/Remove printer is the GUI that allow you to add new printer.
However, its list of ppd files are limited.
There is OpenSolaris project being worked on
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/printing/projects/ppdmgr/
which aims to make it easier for user to download a ppd file and make it
available.
One thing I suggest you try with your ppd file below is into
/usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/system/foomatic/HP
as HP-DeskJet_722C-pnm2ppa.ppd.gz
For the 'printmgr' (/usr/sbin/printmgr) to be able to see this new ppd
file the /usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/ppdcache file has to be edited
appropriately to include the new file's path and definitions.
The launch Add/Remove Printer and do either
Printer->New Attached Printer... or
Printer->New Network Printer...
See if you can find your PPD file on the list.

I have tried configuring my printer from the
Add/Remove printer in JDS. If I get a website for
using my printer from the command line, I will do that
instead. My printer is a HP Deskjet 722C that works
with the pnm2ppa driver in Linux. I downloaded
HP-DeskJet_722C-pnm2ppa.ppd from somewhere on the
internet. I am not sure where. Where is the easy to
understand documentation or guides for this? Is there
something at www.bigadmin.com that I missed? Thanks.
