Probably, because you are the first one who tries to build it this way.
The whole build process relies heavily on Solaris tools (make, ld, etc)
behaviour. You may want to invest your time to make it work under
Linux, but I think it doesn't worth the effort.
As a side note I can add that last time I tried to build Linux under
Solaris it failed, saying that one needs Linux to build Linux. And
it didn't surprised me at all.
Can you explain why it is so important for you to build it under Linux ?
