I'm not so sure it is "hate GNU" as much as it is "hate GNU tar". For good or bad, developers seem to expect perfection and don't have much patience for poor/buggy implementations. And the archiver programs (tar, cpio, ufsdump...) that have serious interoperability and compatibility constraints are exactly the place where you should expect to find extreme intolerance for poor design and/or code. In this context, GNU tar comes out looking bad, but in other conversations and other contexts, there are other GNU tools that stack up pretty good - and may even make the good ol' Solaris tools look poor (or at least long in the tooth). -John _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
