"Yes."

Obviously, as is the case for all other software, licensing and IPR
are important issues here.  That applies to all of the cases you
mention above.

Also, the primitives inside the kernel are different and the design of
the kernel is different.  MT issues are often more interesting on
Solaris than on other platforms.

Why do you care?  As another respondent mentioned, it's unlikely that
anybody who works at Sun could talk publicly about such a thing.
