However it looks like we're trying to put as much distance between Sun's

It's not a no-no. I've continually said "Sun Solaris is based off of
OpenSolaris". We're not trying to put distance between the two. But at
the same time, we're not trying to equate the two.
You are trying to equate the two, and that's wrong.
