In Argentina adsl usb modems are all you get from isps when you ask
for adsl for your home and i know from experience ( i was a very early
beta tester of the cxacru driver for linux) that you get usb modems in
spain and italy too

In Australia we generally got modems which could do both interfaces. In the Linux communities it was generally easier *not* to use the USB interface IRRC. Mine would still do USB but I've never tested it out.

I don't know why - I tend to adopt some types of technology late and broadband was one of them. Plus I consider my broadband connection a "black box routing thing" and couldn't be bothered doing bridging or configuring PPPOE when my ADSL 2+ Modem would just work fine as it is.
