After trying to remember which Solaris release it was, I now remeber that mirroring itself hadn't been the issue. The issue was that live-upgrade was unable to install the boot block on the alternate boot environment in such a scenario. But there were some edge conditions which I don't remember anymore. There was a bugid for this and a fix was delivered with Solaris 10. I don't know if it was backported to Solaris 9.
