You are still ignoring the answers you have been given.
Sorry, what was the question?
In essense, you are saying that "I don't like standards and I don't care about
my customers code."
No, I'm simply pointing out that, like most things, there's
a spectrum here, where "we can't change anything" is on one end and
"we can change everything" is on the other end.
Solaris is closer to the former, and Linux is closer to the latter.
The right place to be, again like most things, is in the middle somewhere.
After literally years of trying to solve the problem, I'm not sure Linux is
going to be able to move--how do you enforce compatibility when the
platform is written by 1,000 different hands, some of whom see
backward compatibility as hindering their ability to innovate etc.?
So, they continue to race ahead. That's worked up to this point,
as that's clearly what large parts of the market want these days
(just based on mindshare etc.). But at the same time, those same large
parts of the market are getting frustrated at the constant breakage.
There's opportunity for Solaris in that frustration, but asking
people to stop the world isn't a solution. Where's the happy medium?
(And, once again, I'm not sure I see anything here that isn't fixed
with a "Solaris classic" environment.)
