Worse, probably, some new features will work only in "classic"
and others will only work in the "punk" environment, depending on
the preferences of the original developers.
(I prefer the "music" association for "classic" over the "old flashioned"
moniker).

Well, yes, if you want to use GNOME you must use "punk".
