Do we force future project teams to test in both environments? If not, then one of those environments will just rot over time. Things will fail to work right in one of the environments and, quite likely, nobody will care because supporting both is not one of the requirements. If we do force it, then this proposal is a tax that is paid by all project teams for the benefit of those who feel that the choice is necessary. It's in addition to the heavy burden posed by past projects that have added such multiplicative complexity to the system. (There's a litany of these, including diskless and Zones.) I'm not sure if it's really worth the effort, but I think we need to be clear on what the effects will be. One of them will undoubtedly be making development slower and more costly than it is today. -- James Carlson, Solaris Networking <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun Microsystems / 1 Network Drive 71.232W Vox +1 781 442 2084 MS UBUR02-212 / Burlington MA 01803-2757 42.496N Fax +1 781 442 1677 _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
