I've never attempted to do this from CD, but I don't see why not. I have
updated OBP by running an executable file located in the root of a boot
drive. I see no reason why you couldn't do the same when booted in
single-user mode from a CD, although you may have to copy the file to
/tmp first...

installed on a Sparc hardware. I have read that (on different forums)
