No way to switch that additional SATA controller to "pATA legacy mode". AHCI support of this controller isn't very good also. Could you look at "BIOS" of this controller (see appendix A of the manual) and check if you didn't enable RAID on it? I have similar system at home so I could check later this week if there is possibility to access it from Solaris.
