Due to the change from svr4 to ips format there was significant effort needed for the port, which was not justified due to the ips support for language support clusters. (like the pfexec pkg install lang-support-ja).

There are several reasons, but my understanding is that the functionality has been replaced by pkg. Running a simple command like $ pkg install lang-support-japanese would install corresponding locale, l10n, fonts etc. Adding [i18n-discuss] if anyone wants to comment further. Regards, hnhn
