users reading my threads are thinking that i am asking /comparing with windows
functionality.
Take the below functionality that does not exist in any os(as builtin) as per
my knowledge:
1. use different folder images for system dirs(make them read only if you
need), apps dirs and user dirs to make better distinction. SO, user can freely
and fearlessly can roam around all the partitions to manage his own files/dirs.
Now all dirs are readonly except home dir.
2. What happens when the partition having os and home dir is full(because of
data, songs and videos). Other partitions are having space. What is the gui (no
cmds plz) way of handling this?
3. Ability to go thru the entire directories, files and settings of installed
apps in the form of a user friendly graph instead of going thru the file systen
thru file sys browser/cui. This is advanced user functionality and may be admin
functionality.
4. constant tuning of system wrt what files, directories and settings belong to
which applications so that when an application is uninstalled there are no
leftovers in the system except the user created files using the app.
Tuning of the system wrt disk errot checking and automatic fixing and
defragmentation Tuning of system wrt optimal network speed(no tcp tweaks like
windows) In short i should not need any system utilities like i needed in
windows.
5. I am unable to know the apps opened on gnome desktop if i opened more than
one app. I have to use std window key cmd Alt-Tab.
6. diagnotic tool to monitor which app(including sys) is using how much memory
space, disk space and processor time. Dispaly app names along with program names
and locations.
7. I want to know what are the directories under root dir(/). What is their
purpose. how can i install (non-sys)apps in the directories I created. apps
installed in user created dirs should display with app dir specific folder
image as specified in one of the above things.
