We don't use /etc/cups/client.conf to configure cups.
We use /etc/cups/cupsd.conf
Try another thing
$ system-config-printer
Click on Server->Settings
Enter root password
Click on "Show Printers shared by other systems
See if your printers from your debian box after a few seconds in your
print manager dialog?

upgrade to a later build :)
