Actually see this week's Economist magazine (Dec 12th) - Toyota is not the same force it was previously. Certainly not the shining example in the motor industry any more. They actually managed to lose more than GM in the first quarter of 2009, and are apparently finding that others have caught up in quality while producing less boring cars, and are therefore losing a bunch of money and need to find a turnaround plan.
As for the rest of the thread, I don't want to comment except to say that (as an outsider), it seems that the real unsolved issue is postinstall scripts and not really C as an implementation language.
