The new GDM is a complete rewrite of the code, and does not yet support a graphical configuration program like gdmsetup. One is in the works, and should be available in the next GNOME release cycle or so. Refer here:

I did look because going from login to the white screen of doom made me start off there... I banged around with the effects settings after I sanitized my environment to get rid of it & was able to replicate it that way without getting locked out. I don't mind the gdm work, it's a Good Thing in fact. I'm considering setting up 2 accounts, one to just 'work with' and the other to 'work on X & graphics with'. Since I hacked lg3d into working on top of snv releases, I've developed a healthy desire to treat X & Nvidia & OpenGL type things with a lot of caution. I'm wondering if anyone has an idea on the best path to not shoot myself in the foot with testing & setup of graphics inside a user's environment? On the other hand, after trying to deal with a sparsity of tools and information related to ISA & release on MacOS, & been left cursing at the lack thereof on OSX, & then wishing I had Sun tools to deal with the MAB's on that OS, well, these are better problems to have than that.
